Facial Skin Care

For most people one of the most sensitive areas on their body is their face. There is numerous ways to make sure one gets the proper facial skin care. Read on for some great tips on how to make your skin healthy and firm.

There are some people who are born with beautiful skin with no effort on their part. Yet for most people a spotless face does not come without some effort. Yet even those with naturally gorgeous skin still have to deal with aging and other factors like the sun. Pretty much everyone needs to take care of their skin to get it looking great or keep it looking great. As with any part of one’s body the face should be tended to appropriately. The basic components of facial skin care are cleansing, toning, moisturizing, exfoliation, acne care and age care.

Cleansing

Cleansing is the first and most basic step in facial skin care. There are different types of cleansers depending on what type of skin you have. The majority of cleansers work similarly and contain fat or oil in addition to detergents to remove dirt, grease and makeup. The ratio in the cleanser of oil to detergent depends on the skin type with more detergent used for oily skin and more oil or fat for dry skin.

Types of cleansers include: soap, there are types for all skin types; cleansing creams, good for very dry or sensitive skin; facial washes, come in gels, lotions and creams with formulas for all skin types; cleansing bars, good if regular soap is too drying on your skin; and antibacterial cleansers, for skin that is oily and prone to acne.

Toning

Toning is the next step in facial skin care after cleansing. Toners are generally used to sooth the skin and remove any left-over traces of cleanser that may still be lingering on the skin. This prepares the skin for the next step, moisturizer.

Moisturizers

The third and final, basic step of facial skin care is moisturizing. Moisturizers are applied after the first two steps to nourish skin and prevent drying. Moisturizer can be applied many times throughout the day as needed. It can be combined with cleansing and toning or can be applied on its own if needed during the day.

Moisturizer can be worn alone or can also be worn underneath makeup. Some moisturizers contain UVA/UVB protection from the sun’s damaging rays. This type of protection is very important for those who are often out in the sun for any amount of time.

Other

There are also many additional products for one to use on their face. Many adolescents as well as adults have to deal with acne and blemishes. There are numerous types of over-the-counter medicines to apply directly onto acne. They should be applied after cleansing and toning but before moisturizing. One wants to apply acne products when the skin is at its cleanest with no products on it.

There are also many products to fight the effects of aging including wrinkles and sagging skin. These include all types of products such as cleansers and moisturizers.

It is often recommend with anytime of face care to use products all in the same line, such as the same brand cleanser, toner and moisturizer. Although this is recommended it is not absolutely necessary.
