Skincare Products

Do you know your skin type? Oily, sensitive, dry, or combination? Regardless of your skin type, there are skin care products just for you. You have to make sure you know the differences between each type and which category you fall under. After that, buying the right products is simple. Below you will find our guide to buying the right products for your skin type.

Buying skin care products can be a daunting task, given all of the various products available on the market. The first step to buying the right products is knowing your skin type. There are four typical skin types: dry skin, oily skin, combination skin (both dry and oily), and sensitive skin. Once you have identified your proper skin type, purchasing the best products will become a great deal easier.

Sensitive Skin: Two Types

There are two types of sensitive skins. The first type has a tendency to break out. The second, and most common type, can be irritated quite easily. You must be careful what you bring near your skin because of such sensitivity. You must watch out for harsh chemicals because they can cause irritation. If you are still not sure if you have sensitive skin, here are some of the signs: redness and irritation from products, blotchy skin patches, or breakouts due to household products. Skin care products especially made for sensitive skin will be appropriately labeled.

Dry Skin

Though dry skin has some of the same signs as sensitive skin, they are quite different in the end. While sensitive skin becomes irritated because of harsh products, dry skin suffers from a loss of water and oils. These two important elements work together to protect your face. The oils keep your skin from loosing the water from your face. Over time, your skin will continue to get drier. You cannot change your skin type but you can treat it. You have to take proper steps to hydrate dry skin. Using a good moisturizer will soon become second nature for you. Dry skin and sensitive skin share some of the same symptoms: flakiness and dryness. However, dry skin is distinguishable by the following signs as well: tightness, itchiness, roughness, and dullness.

Oily Skin

In contrast, oily skin suffers from having too much oil on the surface. The area of your face that suffers the most is the T-zone. It gets its name from the imaginary “T” that certain areas form on your face, namely your forehead, nose, and chin. You have the mostly glands in these areas so they tend to be the shiniest and suffer the most breakouts. These breakouts can include whiteheads, blackheads, and pimples. In addition, you may have trouble wearing makeup for more than a few hours. Skin care products for oily or acne-prone skin were made for these particular problems.

Combination Skin: Both Dry and Oily

You may suffer from a combination of two types of skin: dry and oily. Your T-zone will look shiny while the rest of your face appears dry and flaky. Your symptoms will be a combination of the ones listed above for dry skin and oily skin. Do not try to use skin care products that treat dry skin and oily skin separately. This will not properly treat your skin and can result in adverse effects. A simpler solution has already been developed. There are specialty products that take care of this unique problem and are usually labeled for “Combination skin.”
